If you’re interested in joining us…

(This post is for men who have come here to see about joining Coriolanus.)

Welcome! Here’s what you need to know about Coriolanus:

  • Performances are Sat/Sun, Oct 25 & 26, mid-afternoon, in the Greenville Street Park in downtown Newnan. There is a single performance, Sat, Nov 1, in the evening, at the Newnan Community Theatre Company, down on First Avenue.
  • We work twice a week: Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00 pm; and Saturdays, 10:00 am-2:00 pm (with a quick break for lunch nearby). All rehearsals are at the Newnan School of Dance, 35 Amlajack Blvd. We may choose as a group to work more often closer to the performance, naturally.
  • You would be responsible for your costume: olive green cargo pants, black t-shirt, and combat/work boots.
  • We have not cast the show yet. We are working on the text, solving staging problems, getting to know the play and each other. All roles are still available. We’ll be casting sometime after the next week.
  • There are no paid positions. (I know, but you’d be surprised how many times that comes up.)

Experience with Shakespeare is not necessary, but this probably shouldn’t be your first show ever. Direct any questions to dale@dalelyles.com.

  1. Terry, we had some discussion after you left last night and we think we came up with a solution that will allow you to participate without fretting about somehow “letting us down.” I ran that proposed solution by Barbara last night, and here was her reply: “I can think of far worse things to do with my time than to commit to memory the immortal words of the beloved William Shakespeare.” In short, OF COURSE she will understudy. So I’ll leave it up to Terry and general consensus.

  2. Reality has finally set in. My enthusiasm for playing Menenius was fired not only by reading the play but also by being among some fellow actors. Last night was a very good night for me healthwise (and a rare one lately). Today I did not get out of bed until well into the afternoon and was tired and very sore. Just the effort I put into travel over there and the casual conversation we had completely wore me out. There is no way I could do justice to the Menenius role once, much less on consecutive days.

I thank you for trying to work me into this play, but thse darn facts keep popping up. My body just doesn’t have the energy to sustain a performance. A special thanks to Jeff and Barb for the understudy idea. But I must admit I really like Dale’s original idea of an all male cast. However it will have to be without me. I may try to stop over for a few rehearsals just to stay in the mood.

  3. I’m very sorry to hear this, Terry, but of course we all understand. Please feel free to join us at any time! We would love to have you. Maybe you could throw us some ideas.

  4. Terry, let me second the wish that you come to rehearsal when you can. It’s a collaborative process and your ideas would be welcome. We all are thinking out loud and things “flow.” It’s great fun. And there’s pole dancing.

  5. And, of course, we expect you at the cast party. We’re all signing each other’s staffs.
